Finally the teaching assistance is over. The experience will not be forgotten. Now, this is an issue that I want to share while doing the school experience, also the thing which was discussed in the last session of PETA. The issue is about media, especially ICT.

Lesson Plan and Habit

We know that a lesson plan is our plan to teach in the classroom. And the advantages of lesson plan such make sure what will we do, prepare our self and the properties for teaching, as reflection our lesson. But we are known that it is a plan, how about lesson plan in conventional teacher school opinion? When we talk about how many and how long the experiences of this teachers, they said that lesson plan is a plan, but because of every week usually they teach for 20-32 hours and teach for four class. And average they teach for at least 5 years, teaching is a habit. So, lesson plan it is not too important. They know how to encounter students, to make student understand with the lesson. They could manage it. 

My Reflection

          Last week, PETA is a class meeting to discuss about the reflection school experience. I am delighted at the meeting, because of the meeting I get a lot of things about the incident at the time of preparation and teaching and must occur at each school that have different backgrounds calm.

           When we share stories about the school experience, I strongly reminded of my experience when teaching. At the time of teaching, my lack of preparation as required equipment and mastery of the material. From this incident, I can take a lesson about teaching. When he wanted to teach, we should have a good preparation, such as checking the equipment is needed, we must master the material so that when we present it is not confused and of course we also need to match the method that we want to use when teaching the material to be taught. This certainly must be considered because if it does not match the material, sometimes can cause the material not delivered perfectly. Therefore, teachers must understand the methods that match the material to be delivered.

The Fifth Reflection

     On PETA class last week the main thing we are doing is sharing the teaching assistants that we did last week. Very many exciting and memorable experience that I got from the story of friends during the teaching assistant. some of my friends told me they were an interesting experience for teaching assistants, as well as me. I did a teaching assistant in the SMA 61 Jakarta. I feel very lucky to be in school because a lot of interesting experiences I have gained during do teaching assistant at the school.

Yeay! Back to campus, get ready for busiest day in my life. 2 weeks I have been through as a real teacher in a real school. And last Monday was the sharing session. PETA class talked about our experience when did teaching assistant.

Become a teacher is difficult, but keep spirit ^_^

Become a teacher is my big dream. But some time I changed my dream and said I’m not want to become a teacher. By the time before I got some experience when learn or practice teaching, I really want to become a teacher. I find many experiences because experience is a great knowledge. We can see real problem when teaching and learning process. I got much knowledge from the mentor teacher, students, and practice teaching assistance by school experience. Now, I’m come back to PETA class.

In PETA class we shared many experience with different school. Do effective or doesn’t effective? What is good method teaching? How about the students, teacher, and so on? Many question, many opinion. Waw, it is fantastic and interesting.

I got many theory and method teaching from my lecture. I tried to apply in my class. The result is some effective but some not effective. I thought when we teaching it is just so. Many problems when teaching it is like flow in teaching and learning process. So when we become a teacher should be creative, spirit, patient, sincere.

From now, I believed something in my heart. I can do my best when teaching if use all my sincere and be patient. Difficult should become easy, and after teaching many different students with different characteristic I will happy.  Because become a teacher and make my students understand it is my dream. So keep spirit ^_^.

My Fifth Reflection

Don’t be Nervous as a Teacher

Ok, this is my fifth reflection. In that meeting, my friends and I only shared about our experiences as a teaching assistant. Many experience that I heard from my friends.  Most of all said that their experiences was unforgettable moment, it same like me. I had two chances as teaching assistant in the same class. When I taught in Muhammadiyah 3, it turns out there are some students who did teaching assistant like me from UHAMKA. I felt jealous with them, because they are very loved by students at that school. I want like them who loved by students.

When I began taught in the class in the first chance, I felt sad because the students did not feel attracted to me. I realized that my teaching is less good and looks flat. Finally, the students not welcome to me. In the second chance, I could do teach well. I was happy because the students could accept me with a very welcome. Any student said “Miss, I prefer your teaching methods today than yesterday. It was interesting”. The reason she said that because I used a lot of teaching methods and not nervous like before.

So I can reflect that students does not like a teacher who nervous when taught. And also they do like a teacher who using various teaching methods such as games, team work, etc. I also could learn from my fiends experience when they shared about that. I knew what do teaching well and not well. J J J

Section A

Implementation of effective and ineffective teaching/teacher in SEP

That was a nice and fantastic sharing session. We have written our new experience during 2 weeks in school experience. I think what I’ve been learning in the PETA class is really-really happening in my teaching.  That was so great. I got much new knowledge to teach actually. When some friends told their feelings during SEP, I found something that is so pure happening in the real class. So, I reflect it to myself that teaching is needed more knowledge of content and much more mental or strategy to face the vary class condition. That was so nice.

As if at that time, I was being a senior high school student. Then I think that the students’ react during the lesson is depending on the teacher’s style in teaching. It means, when the teacher only gives the students B expectation, don’t’ ever hope that the students will get A. Everything in the class is coming back to the teachers as guidance. So, I learn that in my teaching experience.

I also found some issues that we have written those down on white board. I don’t ever think that there is a teacher that is not agreeing with a lesson plan. I am also surprised when there is a teacher that is not agreeing to group discussion in learning mathematics. There is also about a teacher with her formulas than the concept. It’s like education world is so complicated.

Actually, teachers should not be afraid to teach during what she or he gives is suitable with the class’s condition. Also, in my opinion, lesson plan is needed as reflection of teaching and also to find a better strategy to teach.

Impressive Experience

I am very pleased to hear stories that impressive from friends about their experiences during the school experience. Some were told to teach all of a sudden, one of the schedules and so on. Base on my friends story, we are many who use teaching methods that we have learned during the two campuses such as staying 3 stray, round robin, gallery walk, group discussions and group presentations. Because we apply active learning methods inginmencoba in class when learning mathematics. But it turns out that for high school students that we teach not that familiar with the methods we use, so some students become confused and even a classroom atmosphere that is not controlled. Well, because each class of students numbering about 40.

            One in my view, the identical active learning with students moving (dynamic) or not static, panel presentation and wearing flip-chart. Well, when reflected last week, I figured out that active learning should not be like what I mentioned above. In addition, I also have a lot to provide exercises for students, for students to see or guess the types of problems and solutions.

            Ehmm, teachers who inspired me was a charismatic teacher. Being a charismatic teacher who I think is difficult. Charisma is also not easy to make. Charismatic teacher who can also make students more easily followed and listened to teachers explain the material. However, charisma must also be balanced with a good mastery of the material and how the delivery of good material. And no less importantly, teachers must also be able to assess students with the goal. However, in reality many times my high school teachers assess whether students are namely subjective closely with parents, family ties even worse because the bribed with money. Wow, how do you think about this? Supposedly, what appropriate action to solve it?

Sharing Our Experiences

“Experience is equal with acquire our understanding about everything ” it is my quote. On first day of 7^th week we have shared about our experiences during School Experience Program that is Teaching Assistance or Team Teaching in PETA course. I like that, sharing about experience when we taught and told my friends about what we have done in School Experience. So, we can share our knowledge to our friends. I think this program makes me more understand about how to make a lesson plan. Beside that I got more understanding about effective and aneffective teacher in learning process. If we comment about aneffective teacher, so I think we must know what the solution for it.

            We were discussing and sharing about our opinion each other, I like with my friend’s statement that sometimes the teachers are teaching with lecturing is more effective than  active learning but not really useful for the students. We know in mathematics, there are some abstract materials, so sometimes we must do lecturing. It refers to my master teacher in SMA 82, she wants her students can understand about the concept of material so she teaches by using Direct Instruction.

            I think everyone have their own teaching style. If there is anyone who has statement that “I usually teaching make discussion, presentation, discovery learning to my students, and that is can make my students understand well”. So, it will be someone who has statement like this, “It will be better to teach the students by lecturing and direct instruction”. It depends on individual teacing style . According to me, with those various types of teaching style will be okay if we can explain or make activity useful for the students. I prefer to use lecturer discussion when explain the material because I can see directly who has undenstand and not understand yet. So I can monitor the students but maybe the others will have different opinion with me.

            We can comment about the way of our master teachers to teach and what we have done during the school experience, whether it is effective or not. Like I said  that everyone have different style in teaching, if we said that the teachers not effective with lecturing but I think some of them  have their own teaching sytle that to make students understand. We  have learn  from PETA course and our experience how to make the effective teaching and learning process. Of course most of us could learn from our experience, with those experiences I can remember all the things for long time. Beside that from our experiences, we can improve our skills which are not good yet. As anticipation not only from experience but we can read from book, and the others.

            So, I learn many things from last school experience how to teach well. We can not judge which one model of instructions is more effective in teaching and learning process. Each of them have their strength and weaknesses. We can learn more and more from knowledge that we have got from our experience. Sure, that is my reflection from our meeting last week.
