my reflection

In the course of this week's PETA, I am happy because I can be a proper and clear explanation of the distinction between from BU Mima about assessment As/Of/For learning. The difference is shown once at the time the teacher and the students do the assessment. The as and for learning Assessment made during the learning process, while the assessment of learning was done at the end of learning.
hmm . . I 'm a bit of a confusion when we are entering material that new  which are formative and summative assessment . Formative assessment may be as example is assessment the as and for learning , while assessment of learning is an example of summative assessment . Formerly , we talk 3 components a judgment rendered teacher to a student . This is very interesting once that time into a material we talk in the class . Well , a teacher should of judging the student with 3 components judgment i e cognitive , of affective and psychomotor . Unfortunately , lot of the teachers lacks understanding the meaning of the award was , similarly by a pupil and whose parents . They tend to just looking at a column first in rapot of a column of cognitive that is obviously indeed it says the value of the student 's . if cognitive of judging the IQ students while affective of judging attitude students or EQ . Im the world of work , a person who can be balanced in 3 components that 's who gets easily received in the work .Especially on affectivnya components because of people having good tend affectiv can easily collaborate with others.
Well, that's more interesting  when we look for an explanation of the assessment tools. Each group was given 1 assessment tools and find out everything about it. Well I am interested in the assessment tools that are being sought by a group of dasrizal that got anecdotal record. To my knowledge, the assessment it like we ever do it in UET courses. When I need to go forward, then Mrs. Puti turned out to take down all that I talked about in the future and what he saw during I do presentations. If my example was correct? How about friends? In fact my group get the checklist. Well, I am still a bit confused about the checklist. According to you , what the differences between checklist and  the rubric?

My Ninth Reflection

Written by Nurul Hidayah

Last week I was fun and enjoy in PETA’s class because I learn more about assessment that I still confuse actually. I have learned about the differences of assessment as learning, assessment for learning, and assessment of learning. Now, I don’t confuse about it because Miss Mima explained it clearly.

Before I share about assessment as, for, of learning, I want to share about the domains of classroom assessment. They are cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. I think an educator not only assess the students’ cognitive, but the affective and psychomotor are important too. The school as a place for the students to learn about knowledge but don’t forget the students have to have good behavior. The students that have Good knowledge and behavior is the most  important thing to make education in Indonesia better than before.

As a candidate of educator for Indonesia, I have to apply assessment as, for, of learning in my class later. Why? I think it is very important if I want to develop education in Indonesia. I want to apply Assessment as learning, so my students can assess themselves whether they understand or not, and then they  can reflection it. Assessment for learning can I use on going. From that I can reflection about whether my students understand or even don’t understand, so from that I can improve my instruction that easier to make my students understand. in other hand, from this assignment I an give feedback to my students about their work. So they know about their wrong and correct, and then they have chance to improve their work to be better than before. So, I can see the progress of my students later. Assessment of learning can I use to give information about my students score at the end. From that the students know their score during the process learning and teaching. Their parents will know because this is as a report from the students and their parents too. The assessment can I use not only at the end actually, but I can assess my students all the time during teaching and learning process. I think this is not easy but as a educator I have to use it and work hard absolutely to use it.

I sure if we apply what we have got from our campus, we can make education in Indonesia better than before. Let’s we make a better education for Indonesia because we are the next generation of teacher Smile. This is my reflection and how about you all ? Smile

Assessment

Last week in the class PETA we learn about assessment again, but it was interesting. We know that assessment is important for us as a teacher in the future to assess our students.  In this course we learn about the domain of classroom assessment. There are cognitive, affective, and psycho motor assessments. I think three of them are important to use by the teacher because as a teacher we can not assess our students based only their cognitive person, but also from the value of their affective and psycho motor. How the students was talking to the teachers and their friends, their habitual, and the other. I think it has to assess by teacher.
When we talk about cognitive, affective, and psycho motor it was remembering me when I was in the Junior High School. In my school the teacher use most of them to assess the students. In my school the value of cognitive person is the second to be assessed. The firs is affective the students, it can be consideration has the students pass or not their graduate is. In my school the characteristics of students is more important to be attention by students because my teacher said “If their attitude is good to the teacher and they have fun with their teachers, then they can easy to learn about the lesson”. In the school the relationship between students, teacher, and parents is very near.  Do you agree with my Junior High School?
It can be my experience that never forgotten by me because I really felt the relation between teacher and students that very near, like mother to their children. I will do that when I’m to be a teacher in the next future, but we did not forget how to assess our students. In the class PETA last week we also learn about kind of assessment. There are portfolio, checklist, anecdotal record, and grading. Unfortunately, we can not discuss about that. In my team we discuss about anecdotal record. I think it was interesting. The teacher knows more about the students, and their improvement in the learning process. To assess the students, the teacher list what the students said, and then the teacher gives feed back to them. It is like Miss Puti do in the class UET. I like this way to assess the students because we are really know our mistakes when speaking in English.
In this class I learn more about assessment. As a teacher we did not only planning lesson plan, teach, and give more test, but also after test we have to look the result of students,  then test again and give feedback. It is remembering me when I did the portfolio assessment when learn about IELL 2 by Miss Susi. She always gives feedback to us when do it, and I’m very proud of whom because she gives feedback personally, one by one. Then, the second, third, and the next portfolio she gave feed back in our paper. It makes me happy because I know that my tasks have been read.    It can be my experience that gives feedback can make students feel happy.
I want to say Love you and thank you for PETA class that make me understand what I have to do in the class when I teach, especially about effective teaching and assessment. Thank you for all that have been learn with me and we share about the lesson. Thank you Miss Mima ^^

When teacher doing assessment to their students, he/she should focus on three domains of classroom assessment. Three Domains of classroom assessment are Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor.  Why teacher need to notice into that three domains of classroom? Based on my experience, my teacher in junior high school always adds affective value in his/her notes every session in the classroom. At the end of the semester, my friend in the classroom that always get the highest score in the test is not the first rank in our class, because he often making trouble in my school, even with the other teacher. That means the students should develop their knowledge and improve their attitude being a person that has a good behavior. Here we can see that school is not a place for learn about knowledge only, but in the school is a place to learn how to socialize with another, be a responsible person, etc.
After doing assessment teacher will know whether they should change their instruction or use the same to their students. It’s depend on the students, every class has different need of instruction, that’s why teacher should use the suitable one. Standard based model can be a guide for teacher when teaching in the classroom. Start from planning the teaching and learning, using lesson plan. Then teaching in the classroom, give assessment, modify the suitable instruction, give more exercise and re-invite the concept. After the students understand the material well, teacher can move in to the next chapter.
From last meeting of PETA, we can learn how to use assessment and change the suitable instruction for students. So, the assessment is not just for taking student’s  score.

Checklist Assessment?

When we make assessment, we should know what the function of assessment is. The function of assessment are can measure, improve, develop, and motivate all ability or understanding students to be better. And then don’t forget how to assess our students, prepare tools and instruction to assess our students.
In the Last reflection, we discussed about A2FOL or assessment as for of learning. I believed using three of them assessment can fulfill students needed. So when we assess our students, the main goal is the assessment can fulfill students needed. Do you agree about this statement?
To make our assessment is useful. We should use good tools, such as portfolio, checklist, anecdotal record, and grading. My group discussed what and how, we assess our students using checklist. If we use checklist to assess our students such as, you know module reflection? Almost like that. Usually we use checklist to assess experiment (step to experiment). But I still confused, how to assess our students using checklist, because I think if we using checklist to assess our students is not fulfill all students needed. So how we assess students using checklist assessment? Lets discussed on Monday, 2th 2012 oke ^_^ see you next years.

Reflecton 13

By: Dian Sulistiani
2010110027 / Section A

PETA class in last week was very great. Mrs. Mima gave explanation about assessment as, for, of learning clearly, so I understood it well. Thank you Mom…. ^_^
Okay, in my reflection, I want to share with you about assessment in my understanding. Being a teacher, it is not easy. We must have a good preparation and a good plan to teach, evaluate, motivate, and develop the teaching-learning process. We do not only teach students in classroom but also think an instruction that is suitable with our assessment. It is very important. Domains of classroom assessment are cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Purposes a classroom assessment are establishing a classroom that supports learning, planning and conducting instruction, placing students, providing feedback, diagnosing students problem and disabilities, and then summarizing and grading academic learning and progress of students.
We also know student’s abilities from assessment. It is used to evaluate the student’s comprehension. We have many tools to assess students. For example, we use paper and pencil test, performance assessment such as drama, exhibition, etc. we can use paper and pencil test for the bloom taxonomy questions. So we know cognitive of students. Then how are the affective and psychomotor of students? The solution is performance assessment. With performance task, we can measure knowledge component or cognitive, affective component, and psychomotor skills of students. For example, we assess students with an exhibition task. We can measure cognitive of students with may be the student’s knowledge when they explain the materials. We can assess their affective from how they keep attitude or how they perform. Then we can assess their psychomotor skills from how they lead their friend to make an exhibition or teamwork.
In here, we can use some assessment tools. They are anecdotal records, checklists, rating scales, scoring rubrics, and holistic scoring. Then, we also use portfolio assessment. It can improve student’s progress because they measure their knowledge by their self. They also learn about how much they understand the materials. They reflect their comprehension. It also being data for teacher and it is assessment of students about their ability. We also include self assessment, peer assessment and teacher assessment into this task. Then, teacher should have report about students’ activities. We can use anecdotal record. It is observation report students in daily. So, we can know student’s ability and we can reflect our instruction or our activities in classroom.
Assessment is very important for us that we want to plan the lesson plan. We must choose the assessment that is appropriate with our instruction. Okay, good luck my great friends, we can do it well. Thank you…

Reflection 9
Last week in PETA course, I continued learn about assessment. In education world, assessment is like hot news. Every time in class, teachers must be ready to assess their students. Although some teachers have different opinion, they think that they will assess students based on their score in summative and formative test. They just think about cognitive scores. If students get high score in their summative and formative test so they will be get high rank also.
Actually, it is unfair for all students. Mrs.Mima said that teacher had to assess students based on three aspects that are cognitive skill, affective and psychomotor. Teacher can assess cognitive skill from students’ score in their formative and summative test. Affective skill can be assessing by performance test or practice. Students’ attitude during follow the lesson in class can be assessing as psychomotor assessment.
I think that now teacher still confusing how to combine three aspect of assessment (cognitive, affective and psychomotor). If teacher combine the three aspects, it will be make subjectivity assessment. I do agree with that statement. Actually, I do not like subjectivity assessment but I think that in this case I will agree with subjectivity assessment. I know that subjectivity assessment will be make students feel unfair. Actually, students have to understand that they not only learn about the material but also learn about life and attitude (moral). In my opinion, students have to know about that. In this time many students just thinking about their score or we can called them “score oriented”. So students never think about the process and their attitude. In their mind, they just think that the goal of their activity in school is get high score.

Assessment

At this meeting, I arrived late but my delay does not deter me to follow the course PETA meeting. At this meeting, we study various types of assessment. Like other types of assessments are discussed by my group of Grading. Basically we do not know more clearly about the grading by the professor because I asked my group to look in the library.
I just get a little information about the grading. There are two types of grading that can be used to assess student scores are based on the limits we have set, for example, teachers set a score of 80-90 will get a grade A and a score of 70-80 will get a grade of B. Also, it can also be used by using a percentage of the number of students for a particular grade, for example, 10% the number of students with the highest scores will get a grade A and 20% with a standard score will get a grade of B. In my opinion, an effective way to determine the grade is by using a restriction score. But at this meeting we have not had time to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of Grading.
With various types of assessment that I know, I am increasingly convinced that the presence of other types of assessment can make me (as a prospective teacher) to be creatif in conducting assessments to students.

Assessment, Assessment, and Assessment J

Three times meeting in Peta Class, I always learned about assessment. It turns out to assess students’ assignment is uneasy.  As a teacher, we should consider how much score which suitable with effort of students to make their assignment. Many ways to assess the students such as do observation each of student in the class, oral questioning, and students’ product (project, paper and pencil, etc). When I did presentation in Senior High School, I thought my teacher would assess me was only how far I mastered the material, but it was wrong. My teacher would have some consideration (such as rubric) for assess his students, so he is not only assessing one assessment.
Mrs. Mima was explained that there are two models of instruction and assessment; Conventional Model and Standards-Based Model. Conventional Model, Teacher always moves to the next lesson without seeing the students understand or not about the previous lesson. Standards-Based Model, teacher will not move to the next lesson if the students did not understand about the previous lesson. In here teacher will try another method for make students more understand than before.
If I become a teacher, I will use Standards-Based Model for teach students. Indeed needs much time, but I think I should give time in out of the class. So my students can ask everything about their problem that related with the lesson. I hope someday I can apply it in daily life.

Portfolio - Ahmad Apriyanto (2010110001)

Last week I learned about affective, cognitive, and psychomotor assessment, but I also learned about portfolio assessment, so I wanna share about it. Another kind of assessment to our students is portfolio; it’s a collection of students’ work which shows students’ thought and their progress during the learning process. By challenging them to make a portfolio, it also will challenge students’ thought logically.

9th Dasrizal's reflection

Is This a Reflection (9)?
This is the last reflection for this year, 2011! Well, it means that there are many things that I have got in PETA course this year. I don’t remember what meeting last Monday was. The important thing is that last week PETA session discussed about the assessment.

Rina's Last Reflection in This Year

My lecturer told me and my friends about assessment as, for and of learning. I think as good educator I have to use assessment as, for and of learning during teach because through assessments as learning I can give my students a chance to assess themselves then they can make a reflection.
In the other hand, I can use assessment for learning to understanding students’ effort, process and progress in learning such as know what part of lesson that students’ didn’t understand yet, why my students don’t understand, some of my students understand hence I have to let them to share in group. Through assessment of learning I can test students’ knowledge about the lesson in the end of the whole class. Actually, my favorite part is assessments for learning because teacher have to observing students’ knowledge and process, it is so important but difficult I think because teacher have to done it accurately without students know that so it can be natural.

Then, my lecturer asked me and my friends to search and know about Grading in the library. My team got it but we still need the strength from my lecturer because our understanding may be false or almost true and the strength will be given in the next year I think.

Assessment (to be continued)

 by Putra praSetyo

Well, last week was the last session with Mrs. Mima, because we all were heading over to the HOLIDAY! It was about assessment (again) and will be continued by the beginning of January next year (hope I am still alive).
Assessment is very important in every field, not just in the classroom (God also assesses us from somewhere we don’t even know, right?) So, in the classroom, as a teacher, we have to be look like the God (a metaphor). We all know that the students always seem to be diligent in doing the tasks if there is a teacher around them. Then, how if there is no teacher watching around? Chaos, is not it?
Well, I have a great idea that when we assess the students we have to make them ‘free of us’. It means that let them learn because they will, not because that their work will be assessed by us and they are afraid of making mistakes. As a teacher, we have to make a lotta ways to make various assessments. The point is, do not make the assessment as a pressure to them. The good thing that I learned from last session of PETA class was one of the ways to assess the students. The portfolio assessment.
It is good for the teacher to make easier his work and also good for the students for their self-assessment. However, there will so many weaknesses in this type assessment. It lacks of control from the teacher. We will never know the students’ improvement by assessing their portfolio, how if their works is cheated with another students and how if them just copy paste from their friends?
I have an idea that I think will be work on this kinda assessment. The teacher should provide time to have a consultation time for the students. The students can discuss their portfolio materials to the teacher and share their ideas.
I just wanna make friends with my students, but I am the invisible assessor.
I own my class. Just like the God own this life.
