Choses the Appropriate Model Instruction

 In PETA class yesterday, I and my friends were learning about model Instruction for strategy teaching and learning in classroom.  There are 4 kinds of Model Instructions consist of: Direct Instruction, Group Instruction, Lecture, and Guide Instruction. From that, the teacher should be able to adapt the model instruction the teacher want used in material to be studied by students. But sometimes, some of the teacher in Indonesia there are misconceptions about how to apply it is in class.
Direct instruction and lecture are a model instructions when teaching and learning in class where the all instructions from teacher and the students just listening and understood the material from teacher explanations. Teacher as the center and instructions among students is very less. Usually the models use when students learn a difficult lesson to emphasize the new concept. Most important in these models is active teaching in classroom.
Group Instruction and guide discovery is a model of instruction where the teacher as the facilitator and students are active learning in sharing his knowledge to other students. Usually formed several students groups of 4 until 5 students, and then there discussions on topics related to the topics material that day. So that students can get knowledge not only from teacher as well as from their friends and other sources, the most important in this model is the active students. In addition teacher is always guiding students in finding the correct concept in several lessons.
Of the four models, the teacher should be able to determine the appropriate model of instruction in teaching in the classroom. Model used in teaching should be suited within topics and teacher could also use more than one model of instructions. For example during the lesson material solubility of chemical substance, because the material is still new for the students teachers also have to explain until students understand the material.  Then the students formed some of groups to discuss such a matter. Well, the teacher is in addition to using the method of group discussion, teacher also used the lecture or direct instruction model in advance to suppress the students ‘concept to be understand
But some of teacher sometimes confused about to determine what kinds of models instruction is appropriate for students interested to learning. As I see when I school experience in one of the public school in Jakarta in grade 4, where the classroom are very crowed during my observations, even there are the teacher in class. Teacher in front only give students instruction to work on the questions in the book of the students. Students, who have been answer the questions and have checked by the teacher in front frequently disruptive students who have not. From that experience I more understood that the models instruction important to know and understand the strategy when used in class for teacher.   Perhaps the teacher that I observed earlier wanted to apply the lectured models, but the teacher didn’t the state of students when doing the task yourself.  Whereas in that situation, students need mentions from teacher and teacher can use group discussion and guide discovery to help students understand deeply the concept of material. This is only my opinion about my experience first, so what do you think about that? Can you share if there are the cases like that what can you do?

  1. I think in choosing a model of instruction can be adapted to the material to be taught, sometimes there is material that should be teach with way lecture
