Teacher's Missunderstanding about Model Instruction

        

        Teacher is one of the facilitator for the students. Teacher is also one of the success factors in process of learning in the classroom. The success of learning process in classroom is related with the success of teachers, not only in giving explanations, but also in giving model instructions.

Model Instructions means teacher's strategy to delivering the material to the students, so students can understand more about the material . It means, in giving model instructions, teacher should give model instructions to the students as clearly as possible. Unfortunately, in real school, many teachers misunderstanding in giving model instructions. Why do they misunderstanding about model instructions? Did you ever feel that your teachers gave you a wrong model discussion? Or did you feel that your teachers did not teach you with any model instructions?

                There are many factors that make teachers misunderstanding in giving model instructions to their students. Firstly, teachers know about the model instructions, but they do not understand and misunderstanding about the meaning of that model instructions itself. For example, teachers know about guided discovery which one of the model instructions and they want to apply it in the classroom. Teachers ask students to read one chapter in a book and answer the questions, but they do not give explanations or give feedback about that material at all. How can students understand about that material if teachers do not give explanations or feedback at all about what they have done?

        Secondly, teachers know about the model instruction, but they do not know how to apply it in the classroom. Teachers know about group discussion and they want to apply it in the classroom, but they force to apply it which not appropriate with the material itself. For example, teachers want to teach physics that has complicated material and needs knowing the concept more, but teachers use group discussion to teach it. If you are the one of that student, how do you feel it? Can you understand the material which needs knowing concept more with that model instruction (group discussion)?

        Thirdly, teachers do not know about the model instructions at all. Teachers do not even use the model instructions at all in the classroom. They just lecture in front of the class without giving any model instructions that can make students being active. It’s usually happened with teachers that not come from education school, and they don’t have awareness to explore their knowledge with any training or workshop. Not only being acting, for students who are high in intrapersonal, they can explore their self from model instruction like group discussion.

        Actually, everyone can teach, every teacher can teach but not everyone and not every teacher can teach for understanding to students. They can not apply the model instruction. As a generation of teachers, we have to know about the model instruction and the meaning of model instruction itself. We also have to know how to apply it in the classroom, so when we use model instruction, it is not just make fun learning but also can make students being active and have critical thinking more.
