In the first meeting of the PETA course, I learned a lot of thing about how the characteristics of effective teachers. As a teacher candidat we need to know about it because it relates to effectiveness in teaching and learning activities. Before we know the criteria of effective teachers, we must hold discussions first in small groups. In this discussion we compare the characteristics of effective teachers and ineffective teachers. Having completed our discussion we make a gallery walk to find out opinions of other groups of effective teachers. I am very happy because we can exchange information.
In fact, there are many different opinions of my friends each group. Among them, effective teachers have characteristics : Want to listen to his students, not lowering self-esteem of students, good looking, tidy, understand each student, objective, patient, etc. While ineffective teachers have criteria: old fashion, the conventional method, labbelling, subjective, physical punishment or violence done to the students, etc. From some of these opinions can be concluded that effective teachers have the following characteristics:
• Well-prepared (have a good lesson plan)
• Creative (using variety of teaching methods)
• Objective (the teacher clear asssesment method)
• Good personality
• Reflextive
• Understand Their students
• Etc.
Beside that, before class started my lecturer asks "What's your goal? Really you want to become a teacher? I still hesitate to answer that question. My honest answer is "no" and the reason I take majoring in education because of get scholarship. But so far after I started a little known world of education, I have an interest to really dive became a teacher and give change in Indonesian education . Is effective teacher can change the education in Indonesia?

most of us have the same thought, with you, sofi, i guess. to be a teacher is only caused the scholarship offered here. by the time goes by, i change my perception. being a teacher--of course an educator--has been my passion.

i think if students feel enjoy and effective, they will get well knowledge.
Being a teacher is not only teaching the students in the classroom. We can be a teacher and sahred our knowledge everywhere. So being a teacher will not make us bored hehe :D
