Various Reflections

            Last week, we learned about Models of instruction, such as: direct instruction, guided discovery, lecture discussion, and group interaction. Each model has weakness and strengths. Models of instruction always related with teacher centered learning and students centered learning. In my opinion, students and teacher must be the centered of learning because these two subject is very important in teaching and learning process.

           First, I want to reflect with my previous school year, when I was in elementary school absolutely, my teacher didn’t use different models of instruction, he/she always use direct instruction, may be at that time models of instruction was not popular yet. Honestly, I didn’t get much knowledge when I was in elementary it was too much for me to learn so many subjects. So, I thought play bicycle with my friends is better than studying. One thing which always make me confused is, my teacher always said that I’m one of the clever students, actually when she taught I didn’t get the meaning. It same with my junior high school, I remember my economics teacher ever taught with Group interaction but, at that time I just think, that was useless. It was better to learn as usual, may be at that time I’m a conventional student. It’s just the same condition with my senior high school.

            I was always school at government school. Is it different with non government school, are they have used any kind of teaching method at that time. I have read “Totto Chan” book, may be you have read it too. I like the school which is built by Sosaku Kobayashi. Even, at war time he was taught with any kind of models of instruction and consider about kind intelligence which students have to learn. Someday, I want to build a school like Sosaku Kobayashi. I think we must consider to student’s kind of intelligence, it doesn’t mean we have to grouping students by their intelligence, we can mix them. We just have to know their kind of intelligence and teach with sincerity as a child would know that, especially for elementary school children.  

            Back to models of instruction when we read about models of instruction. I just think, many of us may choose guided discovery. Sometimes, we have to use direct instruction, it can’t change us to be a conventional teacher. Just use models of instruction according to our needs I think.
