          Topic of PETA course is getting greater. Every week there is always a new thing to discuss. Since the first meeting discussed about effective and ineffective teacher, then discuss about methods of teaching, lesson plan, and many others. This session, which is last Monday, PETA course discussed a topic which actually is not a new for us in SSE: Multiple Intelligences (MI) and Bloom Taxonomy (BT).

          Class was opened by the introduction from the lecturer. Then we did a group work to choose if we want to use MI or BT in teaching. Finally my group chose MI to be applied in teaching and learning process. When we created this lesson, we actually got confused to include all the kind of MI. Since we took an environmental topic, then we made a theater performance, we didn’t know how to place students who have Logic-Math and Intrapersonal intelligences.

          From the discussion and comments of other groups, they suggested us to give a chance for Math Logic students for budgeting. That’s a cool idea. Meanwhile, Intrapersonal students are suggested to reflect environmental issue and write it as a lyric of a song. It must be a combination with Musical students.

          What I can learn from the discussion about using MI in teaching and learning is that we, as a teacher, really need to be creative and think out of the box to create something interesting for students. We need to cover all students’ intelligences, so that they have ownership about the lesson (they DO the lesson, not GET the lesson).

          Another thing I got is about using Bloom Taxonomy in teaching and learning process. From all the discussion, I conclude that as a teacher, we have to provide the challenge of the topic as students’ level of understanding whether they are in evaluation level, creating, or even remembering. One of the examples of the session that I remember is when we teach about colors. Students are given task to remember, analyze, compare, and evaluate a color towards other colors. It was a simple example actually, but I got the meaning.

          All in all, after I have learnt all the teaching methods, I have to reflect all the things and start to apply it gradually whether in next school experience, or even in the team teaching in the classroom and create a lesson plan. What I get from SSE about all teaching and learning is a thing which is really priceless. Let’s be the new generation of teachers!! Long live!!
