Open Minded Teachers

Teaching assistance is over. The knowledge and the experience will not be forgotten by everyone who did this. However, since this program has ended, we—SSE students should come back to campus to study more to be a better teacher in the next opportunity. Hence, last week in PETA class—which is one of the subjects to be the ‘queen’ of this teaching assistance program—we shared the different experience and information each other.
       There were many issues occurred while the teaching assistance program was held. Those were about the usage of technology, lesson plan, and the teaching methods. The issue that will be discussed in this paper is about the teaching methods which are not agreed by the master teachers.
        Some master teachers state that to teach a topic, we do not need to be really fun. They argued that fun learning will only create students do not understand the content itself. However, we do not really agree with that statement since by the time goes by, the teaching methods are improving. Now, what we get from campus is to use the methods what we implemented while the program. Those are cooperative learning, group interaction, guided discovery, and so on.
        However, in our opinion, as teachers, we have to be open minded teachers. We should know and analyze what the ‘trends’ are being used nowadays. We can’t only close ourselves to use the previous methods since what they—the conventional teachers—got from campus was the ‘old’ methods. Now, the trend is like what we talk above.
         All in all, when we are becoming teachers one day, we promised to cope with the newest information about teaching and learning. We think that the knowledge what we are studying may not be used anymore one day. Hence, we have to be open minded teachers to increase the quality of our teaching.

    great, I like your reflection, as teacher we must open minded when choose the teaching methods. Perhaps, from this school experience we aware if not easy to implement the teory that we get in PETA class. we need oppurtunity to practice again.... Have a nice Mid Term Gyus...:)

    Yaaahhh I agree with you that to implementation the theory that we got from PETA's class was not easy. I remember that we have to make a fun learning where the content of subject is clear. Based on the my experience in SMAIT Nurul Fikri was really difficult to implementation it. The first time I taught, the students said that they just got the fun learning however still confuse about the topic. This is our job as a teacher to make the students understand about the content of topic and I think we have to more practice again especially me :D

    open-minded is important thing for everyone, especially for us as candidat teachers. What do you mean about open-minded in here? Is it teaching methods?
    I think as a teachers, we should not to limit our kreative in teaching and don't be lazy to update teaching methods are being developed

    really nice if we apply a fun learning in mathematics. But as a teacher we must also be concerned with students' understanding of the material we deliver.

    Talking about open-minded, I really agree about that, it's our promise until we prove it when we we are being a teacher someday.

    About "fun learning will only create students do not understand the content itself," I also don't agree. We can make a fun learning and make the students understand the content. However, honestly it is really hard. I just reflected on my teaching experience. Almost of the students said "fun, enjoyable, great, etc," but I wonder on my self "do they understand about my teaching?" I afraid if they just "fun learning without meaning." So? How about your assessments to them? Do they show a positive result of your teaching?? :)))))

    Good reflection.
    i agree with this issue.
    Last week Mrs.Mima also said that we have to know about technology advanced and sometimes use it when we teach.
    So students will enjoy our class.

    About fun learning, i think if students feel comfortable and can understand the material.
    so fun learning is not about students can do anything that they want in class.

    ya guys, we have to be open-minded teacher although someday we be an experienced teacher but the teaching method always develop to be more better. It is not wrong to always learn and ask who know better.

    well, i think not only up to date about the latest teaching methods or something like that, but also the other issues like a political, economic, and so on like what pak hatim said.

    I agree with you Wirman, open minded is important to make a difference in education. That was first experience for us in the third semester, we still have many times to learn. To more practice, because practice make perfect :)
