Assessment

Assessment is a way that usually used by teacher to assess the extent of students’ understanding of the material presented. As I saw earlier, the assessment was limited to teacher know the students understanding of a lesson using symbol or number in the end of class. But in PETA class yesterday I got a new knowledge about the assessment. It turns out that assessment happens not only in the end of learning process. But that assessment result can be used by teacher as material reflection for future learning methods and also that happened in during learning process. For students the assessment results as reflection to find the strategies in further learning. In PETA class, we learn about assessment as learning, assessment for learning and assessment of learning. What is that?
Assessment as learning is the assessment for the students for all material in during learning process. The result of this assessment will indicate the extent to which objective has been achieved and what kind of results that arise from the learning process. Assessment will normally be given by other but also by self (self assessment). For example someone says “my friend is a good painting” or “I am a good in math”.
Assessment for learning is the assessment conducted during learning process, maybe feedback from teacher in classroom or motivation for the students. While the assessment of learning is the assessment that are designed by teacher to find out the value of the students’ understanding about the material presented. This assessment can be in the form of symbols or numbers that represent the students understanding. And usually this assessment can doing in the end of learning process.
Assessment is not only intended to compare the ability of someone. Getting less value does not mean we become down and broken heart. But make it as the foundation for success. Determine the best way to act. Look at Thomas Alpha Edison conducting 10.000 experiments to find bulbs, so failed 999 times experiments.  From that, he could find out 999 ways that be avoided in making light bulbs. Just as the teacher until they have been successfully teaching. The more often practice the more knowledge we get. So do not be afraid to try, my friends.
