PETA class in last week was very great. Mrs. Mima gave explanation about assessment as, for, of learning clearly, so I understood it well. Thank you Mom…. ^_^
Okay, in my reflection, I want to share with you about assessment in my understanding. Being a teacher, it is not easy. We must have a good preparation and a good plan to teach, evaluate, motivate, and develop the teaching-learning process. We do not only teach students in classroom but also think an instruction that is suitable with our assessment. It is very important. Domains of classroom assessment are cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Purposes a classroom assessment are establishing a classroom that supports learning, planning and conducting instruction, placing students, providing feedback, diagnosing students problem and disabilities, and then summarizing and grading academic learning and progress of students.
We also know student’s abilities from assessment. It is used to evaluate the student’s comprehension. We have many tools to assess students. For example, we use paper and pencil test, performance assessment such as drama, exhibition, etc. we can use paper and pencil test for the bloom taxonomy questions. So we know cognitive of students. Then how are the affective and psychomotor of students? The solution is performance assessment. With performance task, we can measure knowledge component or cognitive, affective component, and psychomotor skills of students. For example, we assess students with an exhibition task. We can measure cognitive of students with may be the student’s knowledge when they explain the materials. We can assess their affective from how they keep attitude or how they perform. Then we can assess their psychomotor skills from how they lead their friend to make an exhibition or teamwork.
In here, we can use some assessment tools. They are anecdotal records, checklists, rating scales, scoring rubrics, and holistic scoring. Then, we also use portfolio assessment. It can improve student’s progress because they measure their knowledge by their self. They also learn about how much they understand the materials. They reflect their comprehension. It also being data for teacher and it is assessment of students about their ability. We also include self assessment, peer assessment and teacher assessment into this task. Then, teacher should have report about students’ activities. We can use anecdotal record. It is observation report students in daily. So, we can know student’s ability and we can reflect our instruction or our activities in classroom.
Assessment is very important for us that we want to plan the lesson plan. We must choose the assessment that is appropriate with our instruction. Okay, good luck my great friends, we can do it well. Thank you…

  1. Good Dian, I like your reflection. As the teacher, it is not easy, not only prepare activity of learning but also assessment. I agree with you that using performent assessment to assess students' affective and psychomotor. but could you give an example performent assessment can be performed in mathematics class for senior high school. Thank you :)
