In PETA
class yesterday I have learned how to assess the work of other one. Assessing
something is not easy to do, I felt. When I assess the picture of
my friends, I am confused about how to assess the
picture. And then, my assessment and other friends is different. I can say the picture is good but not for my friends, they can say this is not good based of their opinion. This
cases same with when we become a teacher who must give an assessment to the
students’ work. Assessment of a teacher to the students’ work is not necessary the same as assess a good or not good of the picture. Teacher assessment
should be objective in according with rubric assessment. Why? For assessment students’
work is not the same as assess paint in gallery.. Likewise, if teacher use
classroom assessments only based on a subjective opinion are not the same
without a rubric of other teacher and this is not clear or not fair for
students. For that, teacher can’t just subjectively assess student’s understanding in task but there should be rubric assessment that contain the purpose of the
assessment was done.
Assessment
purpose is to determine
whether learning objective has been reached and the value teacher can motive students
to study hard. For the first objective, to see how far of students
understanding, this is the future assessment result that can be used by teacher
to develop ways and methods of learning the next. For example, when teacher
teach students using group discussion methods and the value of the students are
increase, then the methods are appropriate in this study. As well as students,
from the result assessment that students get will be the reference and
motivation to improve their knowledge and abilities.
Of some
objective assessment above, teacher need rubric assessment to assess students
work. But, in educational seminars on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 said that Indonesian
uses character education curriculum so that teacher not only assessing
students cognitive, also assess affective or character of students themselves. As
we know it tends to assess character is subjective. Adviser at that seminar also
said that is impossible when we will add another new class hours again, for
implementing character education curriculum.
And then, this curriculum should be applied to each lesson, so what kind
of rubric assessment for character education curriculum that can use teacher to
assess their students? In other side is not easy to assess if there is no
rubric. Character Education is also very necessary of this country as implementing
of Pancasila, ethical life ad consciousness of the nation’s value. So that, this
is our job as the generation of teacher education to find it for Indonesia
education better.
