Last week in PETA class, I learn how to assess. The first activity is the lecturer asked 4 volunteers
to come forward and clap their hands. And then other students had to chooce the
best clappers. I got difficulties when I should choose the best one. It is
because I didn’t know how is the characteritics of the best clapper. From this
activity, I can reflect that for being teacher, I should have the objective
view. I should make the standards clearly for being the best clapper. And then
it also helps the teacher to account for justify the scored that s/he gives to the students.
The next activity is the lecturer asked the students to
draw the picture given in slide of power point. I dislike drawing, but I have
to try to draw the picture given. I was really enjoy this activity although I
could not draw. After my classmates and I finished drawing, the lecturer
divided us into some groups and she asked us to gather and go around class to see our friends’ drawing. It was not only go around, but also each group
had to decide which one the best picture is. I got confused when my group
should make a standars for being the best in drawing. From this activity, I
reflect that in assessing the students the most difficult is deciding the
categories that want to be assessed. It is because there are many factors that
should be concerned. The important thing that the categories of assessments
should be clear and can be measured.
From the activities, I
learned that the most difficult when the teacher is doing teaching is
assessing. It is because the teacher should choose the best way to assess the
students and also the teacher should make the categories in clearly defined. One
of the best methods in assessing is rubric. But until now, the lecturer don’t teach
to make it yet, and she said that for making rubric is topic for next week. I am
so excited to learn making rubric next week.

I agree with you Dian that to make an assessment by using the category is very difficult, for that we need to require a rubric in order to avoid judgments that are subjective ...
ReplyDeleteoh ya, I want to ask,,, whether the school experience last time you use a rubric for assessment?
