My Reflection about Rubric


From last meeting on Monday, January 2nd 2012, I have learned  about rubric. I becames know how to make my own rubric. From that session, I got something to be reflected. It is about the categories of rubric and when I use rubric as a tool of assessment.
Rubric is only one of tools of assessment. There are many tools of assessment that can be used by teacher. In the rubric, there are many categories that should be assessed.  I thought that the most important in rubric is categories. The categories in the rubric should can be measured. And also the categories should be explain clearly. For example, the categories is opening. The teacher should explain, what will s/he assess for opening category. So, from the rubric, the students get know whats should they prepare for the assessment.
Rubric is also alternative tool to make the assessment more transparency. It is because, the students can do self-assessment for their performance. I, as a teacher candidate, thought that in my course, mathematics, rubrics is little bit confusing. It is because, in mathematics, there are only 2 probability to assess the students which is consisted of true or false. But, in real class, the mathematics teacher can assess the students’ performance for presentation session and s/he can use rubric for assessment.

    Nice reflection.
    I agree with Wirman, too. When I was senior high school, my math teacher never given the assessment to me with rubrics. It is because my teacher just give test with paper and pencil.
    In my opinion rubrics assessment is more effective to assess any performance test.Like exhibition, presentatior, etc.
