Knowledgeble of Teacher?

What should have a mathematics teacher? When I was in Elementary School, I  have taught by my teacher that teach in the lesson mathematics and also lesson sains and social. When She was taught, she just teach in one method, there is conventional method. She taught using blackboard and explaining in the front of the all student while the student only sit in the chair. After the teacher finish give explanation, she gives us the keyword in this chapter that have to remember for us.

 For example, when taught about a parameter from a rectangle she just teach using blackboard for the explanation and she wrote in the blackboard. After the explanation the teacher give square for the formula or pattern of mathematics about parameter rectangle. I didn’t understand about the parameter. So, I just make conclusion that mathematics is the lesson for remember the pattern. Is it right?
 

At the end of the lesson the teacher give us exercise that from the book.  For example, How the parameter of the rectangle that have long 7cm and width 5cm? All of the students did the exercise, but most of them didn’t understand  the right answer and me too. I didn’t understand what is parameter of a rectangle.  Then, the teacher said that the exercise to be the homework .  When I came to my home I just crying because can’t solve the homework and when my brother saw my book he said “this is easy ,Mul”  and I think he can said that because he a junior school’s student while I’m a Fourth Elementary School . At the end my brother who did my homework.  

The next meeting,  my teacher doing collect our task and we correct together and give explanation again. At he end I can sole the exercise well about the parameter rectangle and I like accounting and doing exercise mathematics with using the pattern, but I can not answer the exercise that related in real life. For the example, when we learnt about number decimal (subtract and additional) and the question is MS. Lina is a tailor. She has 3/2 meter fabric that want to make a clothes for male and female. The fabric thet she need is 8/3. How many part that she have to buy in market?

In the class PETA, I have learnt about “Teacher Professional Knowledge”. In here I can learn about how to teach the students, to manage the class room, instructional strategies, give exercise or homework to student and how to make students have fun in the learning. In the class PETA we didn’t only listening my lecturer, but we did group discussion, watching video, make a poster, and I think the important is every students can move on the place to other place. So, didn’t make me boring in the class. The ways to give a lesson for us like a  line that related in the one material to the next material. It is make us thinking step by step and understand about the topic. In SSE, I have many things how to teach better in the future, to make mathematics more interest.

If  you compare with my experience in the elementary school. What did you have?
