My reflection in PETA class (week 3)

In the third week of PETA class we are learn about Model Instruction that usually used in teaching. From this session I learn about variation of model instruction that really interesting. Model instruction that usually use in teaching is Direct Instruction, Guided Discovery, Group Interaction, and Lecturer Discussion.
The discussion make me think, what usually my teacher’s use in teaching? While I am in high school almost all of my teacher using direct instruction model. Direct instruction is the way teacher delivery the content with presentation, demonstration the content, or usually celled active teaching. This method has been used a long time by teachers.  I often get direct instruction model in the mathematics classroom that makes me feel bored and hard to understand the material.
Sometimes a teacher using inappropriate model instruction. Example: In mathematics learning my teacher always speech along the class session. The teacher never knows whether we are thinking according to the content or not.
I’ve also teach by a teacher that using guided discovery model. However, the teacher cannot apply that model well. It looks like the teacher is not prepare with the content that we discussed. The teacher immediately gives the task and asks us to finding the result but we never get feedback.
The most fun experience that I ever get about variety of model instruction is when I became a college student in Sampoerna School Of Education (SSE).  My lecturer is so smart to combine some model instruction according to the content. One of the examples is in third week of PETA class. My lecturer Ibu Mima combines 3 model instructions in the classroom. First my lecture using lecturer discussion with giving some question that persuades us to give our opinion. Then the lecturer connects the last question into our material. Here teacher trying to organize students prior knowledge and connect with the material that we will discuss. The next activity we start to formed into a group, this is application of group interaction. Here we were asked to read and understand the material that given to us and discussing with friends who have read the same material with us or we usually called expert group. I think this activity is really fun because we can share our knowledge from different perspectives. Indeed there were many different opinions in the same point. But our lecturer discussing what we have done and provides feedback to the material that we have discussed, it makes us clearly understand. Here from the PETA class we see that the students active and the teachers actively guided the students.
