PETA class this session was confusing.
My lecturer actually wanted to implement the models of instructions to the class. There were direct-instruction, guided discovery, lecture-discussion, and group discussion. The most confusing about the materials was discovering the contrasts of those models of instructions. They were just the same, I thought. However, they were not.
As a teacher or educator we needed to implement a lot of model of instructions in the class. It would enrich our teaching and learning experiences. We needed to know which one of models of instructions those succeed in our classroom and which one would not. There would be a lot of different students’ characteristic and different climate of class room every single day. That’s why wee needed to try to implement the models of instruction in order to make our students feel enjoyable instead of boring.
My expert-group was discussing the function of guided discovery in the classroom and the differences between the others model of instructions. I was confused with all the comments because it seemed they all had explained the others model of instructions. The others expert-group were also discussing others topic. After that confusing time I went back to my home-group and tried to explain to my friends.
My explanation about guided discovery was easy to understand because my friends said that this method was a common way for teachers in the classroom. The method is used in laboratory activities or outdoor activities. It would make the students discover their understanding in finding the formula or the ways of getting something. For example, the teacher asked his students to find out why the egg in salty water could not drown. Then the students would find out why then conclude their findings.
Suddenly I realized that the guided discovery was not only used in the laboratory but also in daily classroom activity such what I was doing at the moment. My lecturer asked us to find out our understanding about guided discovery and others models of instructions. We were asked to make the conclusion about it then my lecturer would guide us to find it. However, my lecturer also implemented the group-discussion and lecture-discussion on that day.
So, my conclusion about the PETA class on last Monday was surprising and quite interesting.
"Suddenly I realized that the guided discovery was not only used in the laboratory but also in daily classroom activity"
ReplyDeleteI really agree with that because at first i thought that "discovery" is something related to the practice of physics, chemistry, biology, math, etc. Whereas, discovery is beyond of them :D
