If someone said that “theory is easy to read, a minute for remembering” that absolutely true for me. I have already learned so many theories of teaching and learning in SSE and I am so interested for applying it in the real class. In SSE, teaching and learning method more focus on active learning and group discussion, maybe it can happen well because we already have the awareness to learn and want to know many things maybe because we are the teacher candidates and at least should be knowledgeable.
As we know when we were doing the micro teaching, that’s easy to apply the theory, but after I tried to implement it in real class, that’s not as easy as in micro teaching. There are so many problem that I faced. First is about time limitation and then about students’ understanding. After I taught in real class at the first time, I am really appreciated with our Calculus’s lecturer with his preparation, time management, method of teaching and also his effort to make students’ understanding. We know that mathematics is not easy, for make sure if every single student has understanding that’s not easy too. May be it happened for me because that was the first time for me to teach in real class, I’m optimist if I can be better for next time, I will learn from my experience and also my friend’s experience.
Back to applying theory, many of us think that we must use active learning to make students actively involved in our class. That’s not bad I think, because if we use conventional method our students will be bored and for what we learned about many teaching methods. If now we failed to implement it, it does not mean if that’s not good method to applied, each method has advantages and disadvantages of each, I think we just need a lot of flying hours to polish our teaching techniques. The most important think which I learned from my master teacher is, whatever the teaching method that you used, the important thing is your students understand about what you have taught.
I agree with you Novi, sometimes the theory quicker to understand but when we practice using it a lot of other unexpected problem arise, then from that we can understand more about the theory I think. Nice reflection Novi... Selamat Idul Adha ya...:)
ReplyDeleteYa, I agree with you Novi.
ReplyDeleteI think that all of methods are good. But it depends on the material to be taught.
not all material can be taught with the method of presentation or other methods.
So, the teacher should be able to choose right method :)
I really like your statement "whatever the teaching method that you used, the important thing is your students understand about what you have taught." However, to make students understand about the content is quiet hard even we use lecturing for fundamental concept of a topic. If we assess them, and then they show a positive result, we can conclud that our teaching has succed. However, I wonder that is my assesment appropritae? I mean is it the rigt assessment? or maybe the questions for assessing them are too easy for them? So, that's my reflection about making assessment is a quiet hard problem too. :D
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you Novi...
ReplyDeletetheory always more easy than the real condition.
we have to say thanks to SSE.
we are lucky to know that case in third semester so we can more preparation to become the real teacher.
i think that we have to creative and smart when we choose teaching method.
Depends on situation and facilities.
