Assessment as, of, for Learning

Last week in PETA class, we have learned about “Assessment AS, OF, and FOR Learning”. We have discussed it in our groups, Right? Then we also did round robin to write our result of group discussion too. I am still confused about the differences of Assessment as Learning, Assessment of Learning, and Assessment for Learning. Okay, I want to share with you about my comprehension.

Assessment as Learning, I think, it means assessment in ongoing process. It is done by teacher. Teacher motivates students and can know a student’s stage in learning process. It is similar with Assessment for Learning. In Assessment for Learning, we assess for two reasons: to inform instructional decisions and to motivate students to try to learn. It means ongoing process. It is to provide students with continuous access to descriptive feedback. The feedback help students see how to improve the quality of their work and to set goals for what comes next in their learning. It is done by teacher and students. Then Assessment of Teacher, I think it is an evaluation assessment. It is like an examination. Assessment of Learning comes most often at the end of a unit or learning cycle. It has a feedback to students but feedback a less obvious effect on student learning than assessment for learning and assessment as learning. The result of assessment is used to know ability or student’s knowledge during the teaching and learning process. It is also used to inform their parents about their result of examination.

We as teacher candidate, it is very important because we should assess student’s ability from some view. We do not only assess student from their result of examination but we also need to remember about the process of student to get their knowledge. I think it is difficult but we must try and try so when we become teachers, we can do the best assessment for our students.
