Assessment ^^

                                                            Novi Handayani (20100110005)

Last week is the last day we meet on PETA course for this year. We still explore more about assessment. I just realized that giving assessment is not as easy as seen. There are so many aspect that we must consider about. Assessment is not only for give student a result for her/hi score from the test but assessment can measure the effectiveness of our lesson. Like group 3’s issue, Standard based problems is very nice I think. Teacher will always reflect on their own way to give the material until all students understand about the material, because when we teach in big class, we must consider to all students not only for some students, we must make sure if all students can follow our lesson well.
Assessment is always on going (formative assessment), the true assessment is not only always for the last test for the end session of material. If we make assessment like that, students will only learn for the test but not for understanding. Therefore, summative test is important too, we can combine it to measure the whole of our lesson after making some improvement and changing.
By my experience, mathematics subject test is very scaring for students so, students use a thousand and one way to make their score high. Actually that’s not the essential of mathematics subjects goal, mathematics is a subject that always relate to our daily life, if students can apply it, it shows that our goal has reach. Then, cognitive, affective, and psychomotor will be more easy to assess.

I just wanna ask you something, you said that "mathematics is a subject that always relate to our daily life, if students can apply it, it shows that our goal has reach." My question is how far you apply math in your daily life before entering SSE? :D

    Thanks
