PETA
class yesterday has made me more understand again about assessment. Before, I
didn’t understand in deeply that material. Evidently, when my lecturer asks
about the differences of the three kinds of the assessment are only few that I can
answer. It turned out that assessment as and for learning is assessment can
also be used by teacher to determine the extent of students understanding
during the learning process. For example a teacher to teach using the lecture
method and given the post test after learning about that topics. And the result
of this assessment maybe show scored less, then the teacher can take appropriate
action for the class; the students who get less scored or conduct additional classes
to help these students. The results of this assessment will also be a
reflection for teacher to choose teaching methods that appropriate with this
topics and this class. So that, teacher need modify the way classroom teaching.
Related
with above about modify the learning process. Yesterday I also learned about
models of instruction and assessment. As we often discuss in class, as the
teacher not only assess the cognitive of students but also affective and
psychomotor of students. To make an assessment that teacher may not only be
assess at the end of lesson or in the end of semester. Teacher should be considering
the students process one by one and seeing their progress. So that, teacher need
to make an assessment during the learning process. Conventional models are
learning models that often did I see when I was a senior high school first. The
most of my teacher only assess my understanding in the end of the material with
a daily test or in the end of semester. Rarely discuss the exercise, so I never
know where my errors in the task. Teacher does a test on every topic but I never
see the result of daily test and the learning process continued with another
topics. I didn’t understand and sometimes get trouble in other topics that
related with this topic. Perhaps this is caused there are many material that
have not been delivered whereas the final exam is imminent. So, my teacher had
to teach quickly.
Standard
based learning models are the learning models that lead teachers from
preparation and during the learning process are also given assessment, maybe
using post test or open question related with the topic. From the result of the
assessment was also the teacher will continued to teach or modify the way of
teaching that can help the students familiar with the material. During the
process the teacher always give students motivation and a good feedback to the students.
When all students are familiar with the topics, teacher can move on the next
topics. Many tools can be used by teacher in assessing students understanding. For
example: using portfolio, project, exercise, checklist, anecdotal records,
grading, and so on. As the teacher can be combining the tools of the assessment
to get a good result that can show the students understanding. To better understand
about how to use these tools to assess students we wait the next meeting in
PETA class. Thank you :)

waahhh... nice reflection Asih.. my teacher also did it. may be at that time this type of assessment not popular yet, so they use the conventional one.
ReplyDeletei like your reflection Asih,
ReplyDeleteMy senior high school teachers also did the same thing that they just assessing their students in the end of chapter.
And sometimes they never give the result to us.
So we never know about our weakness.
Thanks woro and Nopi... maybe for the next generation of teacher we have to make a changes in the terms of assessing students. this is our job guys... :)
