How to assess Students

                                                                             Novi Handayani (2010110005)

Have you got very bad/low score? What do you feel? Sad or make you drop? So, as a teacher candidate what will you do to make assessment which make your students do not give up to learn more. Do you want to get them 100 point? Of course not, so what will you do? Actually I’m little bit confused too. Ok that just an intro.
Last week, we have learned about assessment and how to assess students properly. From the first activity we learned if we must make objective assessment for our students. We can’t give good score because we like that students or we give bad score because we don’t like that students. Then, from the second activity we learned that we must make appropriate aspect to assess. I think it will be better if we make rubric to assess our students because by using rubric we will assess many aspect, for example in mathematics subject we won’t assess only from their final result/answer.
Mathematics subject is the one of many subjects which has big probability to give unfair score/assessment. Sometimes many teachers just look the final answer of students, they didn’t look the process of students answer so, we can develop rubric for the process. For example: we can use interval for assess the students.
For example I have 5 questions every question has 20 %
Then, the interval score for one question is:
Indikator penilaian
Score
Mengerjakan ( there is a way to get the answer even wrong )
0 - 5  %
Sangat kurang tepat ( there is a way that almost reach the true way)
6 - 10 %
Kurang tepat ( true way with miss calculation)
11 - 15 %
Tepat ( true way and true calculation)
16 - 20 %

That just an example from me. I just want to say that, we must give appreciate for all of students’ effort. And don’t forget we must use differentiated instruction for all students because every single students is different.

  1. I like your statement "We can’t give good score because we like that students or we give bad score because we don’t like that students". sometimes this case still occur in some of the school in Indonesia. I still remember when I got religious test in senior high school, my teacher never shows the rubric assessment. And I not really near with this teacher and then my value sometimes not clear for me or my friends and sometimes smaller than my friends who near with this teacher. I don't know what wrong with me and this is hurt me.I hope I can learn from what I felt with assessment without rubric and will not do the same thing for my students again later. Nice reflection Nop Nop... :) Thanks You

I really get a point from your reflection.
Teacher must give appreciate for students' effort but he or she have to assess the students correctly such as use rubric :)
