My 6th Reflection

We will never stop to learn how to be a great teacher. Every day our knowledge is increasing in order to become a new generation of teacher. Of course, every teacher candidates will learn what kind of thing that is needed to become a teacher. As we may know, when we learned in formal school, our teachers taught the material in the lesson, gave us homework, and gave tasks to be done. Furthermore that is our job as educator. In PETA class we have learned how to be a teacher, learned about effective teachers, model of instructions and in the last meeting we learned about assessment. Those are kind of knowledge that are useful for a teacher.
I remember how my teachers in senior or junior high school gave me an assignment that was part of assessment. Sometimes I thought the assignment was easy to be done, like doing exercise in LKS we just did copy paste from the material in that book. Different with examination we had to understand and remember about what we had learned. Those were some ways of how our teachers assessed us. They could see how far we understood about the lesson. I am always thinking that it is easy to be a teacher, I just have to give the students assignment and teach them.
Last meeting in PETA class we tried to assess the drawings made by our friends. Deciding which one the best picture was and gave the score for every picture. Honestly I was confused about how to assess those drawings. Every picture had different style, there was a drawing which was just a sketch but almost same with the example, and there was also a person who drew one part but well too. So, which one that I assess as the best pictures? Ibu Mima said that from the beginning we had to decide what we would assess from that activity. We make a rubric in order to facilitate our assessment.
In fact after PETA class, it is not easy to assess our students. Not just give the students task and teach them. We also must see what the standard and basic competence from the material so we can decide the activities and what we will assess from those activities or the tasks. Beside that, we cannot be subjective in assessing our student but we must be objective. Sometimes in assessing something we tend to be more subjective than objective. I am afraid later when I become a teacher, in giving assessment to my students I am more subjective than objective. Sure I must believe that I can do the best for my students. I hope I can give good assessment to my students.

  2. Yes, that's right ..
Sometimes teachers think that by giving the task to them is one way that can be used to see the level of students' understanding of the material. I think it's not wrong, but the method of valuation such as what is used? And this is the major cause of judgments are subjective.
    Good Vika ...
