Wow... This is my eighth reflection. So many things that I got from PETA’s class. Last week I still learned about assessment. Miss Mima asked the students to watched the video about assessment. Actually so many ways to assess our students’ understanding. Not only by paper and pencil to assess our students later, but from the video show the teachers did assessment by presentation, making something that related to the subject, and something like that. I think the video very interesting for me because open my mind that so much way to do assessment to see my students’ understanding later. Absolutely, to do it I have to creative and seriously because not easy but nothing impossible, right?
About assessment, I think multiple choice is one of the way of assessment that not good. Why? Because by multiple choice I don’t know whether the students’ answer by their thinking or just guess. I can’t see their thinking process. Whereas knowing their thinking process is the most important to determine the level of the students’ thinking by bloom taxonomy. Absolutely, the bloom taxonomy can’t be used by multiple choice. Based on my experience in secondary high school, my teachers give multiple choice questions which the answers have been provided in the textbook. I just reading textbook and remember what I read, so I can answer the question. From that, I just realized that I just remember (LOTS) without have critical thinking to understand beyond or out of the box. So, my conclusion that multiple choice can’t make the students have or build critical thinking. From that I can learn and prepare to make assessment that can build my students’ critical thinking later.
In addition, last week I learned the kinds of the assessment are “assessment of learning, assessment for learning, and assessment as learning” . I just know there are the kinds of assessment. Hehe. Honestly, I still confuse about that. I can’t to distinguished assessment as, for, and of learning yet. I don’t know whether my understanding about that is right or not. Actually I want ask about that to Miss Mima but the time was limit. I will ask about that tomorrow. Anyone want to share your understanding about the kind of assessment? Let’s share in my reflection here
I a little bit disagree with your opinion, day.
ReplyDeleteyou said that multiple choice is not a good way to asses students. I think this is a good way, but we only can use it in certain time, such as when we only have a little time but so many students that we have to asses.
and remember, there is not perfect way to asses students.
Thank you for your comment Haryo :)
ReplyDeleteI still think multiple choice is not good because I can't see the process of students' thinking later and can't build the critical thinking of students:)
