ASSESSMENT II
OK,
we talk about assessment. Again!!! Yes, we must do it. In last week, we are
talk about assessment as, for and of learning. Just remembering, assessment as
learning relates with student assessment and for learning relates with teacher
assessment and of learning is about assessment that is given by curriculum. Assessment
as and for learning always on going in teaching and learning process but of leaning
always is ongoing at the end of teaching and learning process.
Actually
as a teacher, we must collect any data from teaching and learning process. So,
what are ways that we can use? In the last PETA class, I knew the general ways
to collect data just like:
1.
Student products
2.
Oral questioning
3.
Observation
From three ways above, we can collect all
data to assessment process. And I think that the ways could represent how far
students could understand the material are.
After
we knew how to collect data, don’t forget to know about what domains that we
must assess are. Every student has their own ability, and we must be objective
when we assess them. So we have three domains of classroom assessment, they
are:
1. Cognitive : students
understanding
2. Affective : students
behaviors, attitudes, or active involve or not
3. Psychomotor : doing
performance task
By these domains,
teacher has a guide to assess student’s ability.
In
this modern style, we have standard based model to teaching and learning
process, to know how the standard work is. Please check this scheme:
Why
the scheme is like that? I will share my understanding about the scheme. First,
we must make a plan for teaching and learning process. Second, we do our plan
in teaching and learning process. Third, after teaching and learning process,
we assess our students understanding, if the result is students didn’t
understand we must back to teach again and make sure that our students understand
about the material. And if students understand about the material, we can move
to another instruction and don’t forget to give feedback to their
understanding.
Now,
we talk about the functions of assessment. They are:
1. Readiness : to
determine pre-requisite knowledge
2. Placement : to determine
entry performance
3. Formative : to
monitoring learning progress, to provide continuous feedback instructional
decisions
4. Diagnostic : to
determine the causes of personal learning difficulties, to assess achievement
of the end of instruction
Formative
is always used to alter or improve, so it’s on going in teaching and learning
process. And summative is used to evaluate, so it’s at the end of teaching and
learning process.
In
the last, we have study about portfolio, checklist, anecdotal record, and
grading. Portfolio and anecdotal record are tools that we can use to assess students.
In the portfolio and anecdotal record, we can know how far they understand
about the materials. Checklist and grading are ways to make assess student’s
task.
